Zarmora Bibbs,
Iii
May 14, 1952 – August 27, 2024
Zarmora Bibbs III was born on May 14, 1952, to Georgia Belle Young and Zarmora Bibbs II in Decatur, IL. The second of four children, Zarmora was surrounded by three strong sisters, uncles, aunts, and cousins that would remain close knit for their entire lives.
Zarmora was baptized at the age of seven at Salem Baptist church in Decatur, IL. Three years later, in September 1962, the family moved to Lansing, MI. He graduated from Everett High School in 1970 and later received an associate's degree from Lansing Community College. Zarmora was a founding member of Club Vanguard, naming the club, a social club for Black Men in Lansing founded in 1976. He had a great love for basketball, football, youth development, all things western's and sci-fi. Zamora's passion for youth development led him to Highfields Inc., a residential camp for troubled boys in Onondaga, MI. Zarmora enjoyed helping to transform the boy's lives, showing them a better path into manhood, often taking them on camping trips and bringing them home for the holidays to enjoy home cooked meals with his family. After 25 years of service as a residential counselor, he retired to enjoy his family.
Zarmora met a lovely woman in the cafeteria of LCC named Roxanne in 1971. Legend has it he introduced himself to her by hitting her with a rolled-up newspaper. Roxanne and Zarmora were wed on December 20, 1973. They were blessed with two beautiful children. Zarmora and Roxanne filled the home they built in 1983 with love and joy for 50 years until Zamora transitioned on August 27, 2024.
He was affectionately known as "Bobby," and later as "Bibbs," and "Z" but preferred Zarmora in adulthood. No matter which name he was called, he was known by all for his charm and sarcastic wit, sense of humor, his counsel, and appreciation of camping, fishing and food. There was no greater love or commitment than to his family.
When Zarmora was called home, he was reunited with: father, Zarmora Bibbs II; and his grandparents, Dan and Theresa Young. He leaves behind to mourn him: his devoted wife, Roxanne Bibbs; daughter, Malika Elwin; son, Zarmora Bibbs IV; granddaughter, Parker Elwin; son-in-law, Carlyle Elwin; mother, Georgia Rogers; siblings, Theresa (Tiny) Armstrong, Rena Wells, Lori (Lolly) Grundy; sister-in-law's, Allesia (Vicki) Daniels, Piper Davis, Teddi Jean Coleman; brother-in-law's, Frederick Daniels, James (Bud) Daniels, James Wells, David Grundy Sr. He will be especially missed by: his best friend and brother, Gerald Lee; as well by a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.
