Obituary

Mr. Yasak Wa Ezabele ,affectionately known by many as "Babu and Ezabele," was a long time resident and educator of Lansing, Michigan. He made his transition to eternal life on Monday, February 17, 2025, at his residence at the age of 68. Born on December 1, 1956 in Kishasha, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to the late Gaston Ezabele and Léontine "Tina" Akombo-Yakwanaye as the first of seven siblings. He would find himself leaving his country, arriving in the United States, and obtaining his masters in Sociology at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.

He began his career lecturing at Michigan State University, Lansing Community College, Mott Community College, Central Michigan University, and then finished the majority of his teaching at Martin Luther High School. He would not only lecture about Sociology but also African  Nationalism and International Aid, Anthropology: People and Culture of Africa. He was passionate and dedicated his life to broadcast the Genocide of Congo as well as the endless mineral war taking place in the DRC.

Ezabele was one of many celebrated and respected leaders in the community. He mentored and assisted thousands of refugees and immigrants to become established across Michigan. His use of knowing multiple languages (Swahili, Lingala, English, and French) would bring him to connect with so many and create bonds for a lifetime. Ezabele spent so much time volunteering generously in local organizations. He enjoyed dancing, listening to music, traveling, and bonding with his grandchildren. Despite all of his accomplishments he was most proud of his children and family.

He has reunited in heaven with: his cherished son, Jean Luc Ebao Ezabele. and now leaves to cherish his memory with his surviving daughter, Natalie Ezabele. His love extended to 21 grandchildren and three great grandchildren who he adores the most. His legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will live on in the hearts of everyone he touched. Though he may be gone in body, his spirit, and unforgettable presence will remain with us forever.
