Willie Lee
Dixon
June 6, 1942 – May 28, 2024
Willie Lee Dixon was born June 6, 1942 in Doddsville, Mississippi to Eckward Bernett Seals "Son Seals" and Annie Mae Dixon (Garner) and raised by his stepfather, Will Garner.
Willie was born a share cropper's son where he worked on plantations picking cotton until the age of 17. He was the first born of twelve brothers and sisters. At a young age Willie helped his mother, Annie Mae raise his siblings.
In 1955, under the cover of darkness to avoid the Ku Klux Klan, Annie Mae moved the family to Tyronza, Arkansas. Willie continued picking cotton but on another plantation. He was good at it, he would often boast of out-working everyone on the farm earning enough money to open his own bank account as a black teenager in the south during the late 1950's.
Willie was his own man. Following a conflict with the plantation owner's son, Willie was forced to leave Tyronza, Arkansas and moved to Lansing, MI in 1960. He found employment at Motor Wheel as a welder. He later married, Earnestine Looney, where the two were married for 58 years. Willie found employment with the City of Lansing's Human Resources Department. He retired from the city after 20 years.
Wille had a profound passion as a Tax Preparer. He enjoyed looking for government loopholes to save his clients' money. Willie ran his own tax business fulltime for over 30 years and loved every minute of it.
Willie enjoyed the finer things in life; cars, clothes, and good food. Willie also had a passion for learning, exercise, taxes, and MONEY! He had a heart for people! He enjoyed being there for family, friends, and clients who became friends.
Willie was proceeded in death by: parents, Annie Mae Garner and Eckward Bernett Seals "Son Seals"; brothers, Charles Garner, Steve Garner, and Sylvester Garner; sisters, Arlene (Penny) Garner and Bettie Joe Garner.
Willie died on May 28, 2024.
