Obituary

William Harold Plesscher, Jr., "Bill", took his final breath, at his home, at the age of 67 the evening of Sunday, September 6, 2015 after a battling fight with metastatic lung cancer. He was born to William and Barbara Plesscher in Chicago, IL February 22, 1948. Bill was a graduate of Everett High School in 1967. Previous to graduation, he was a former attendee of Michigan's School for the Deaf. Bill was passionate about his culture, and did his best to inform his acquaintances on the importance and significance of deaf awareness. His passion for his culture lead him to many experiences within the deaf community, including assisting students in training within LCC's interpreting program. Although Bill suffered from the disease of alcoholism, he was able to conquer the disease through the help of AA's twelve step program, and the support of his family, friends and devoted sponsors. Bill tackled his disease in 1998, and has been proud to share his story to inspire and lead others to sobriety. His accomplishment of 18 years of sobriety has always been an achievement that has made himself and loved ones proud. Bill and Mary were married on March 10, 1987 and spent 28 wonderful years together. They raised two children, Amy and Molly, who they were both very proud of. Bill's pride and joy were his children and grandchildren, Aubrie (6) and Ashlyn (2). He was a member of Capital City Baptist Church in Holt, attending the Deaf Chapel. A moment he cherished was his baptism, displaying public faith in the Lord in the midst of his battle with cancer. He was a loving guy who enjoyed to joke and make people laugh. Anyone who knew this man knew his love and dedication to Michigan State. He rarely missed a game on T.V. and showed his dedication by his choice of clothing, and display of Spartan memorabilia. Bill's quirky fun-loving attitude will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. William Plesscher, Sr. Bill is survived by: his wife, Mary; daughters, Amy Plesscher and Molly (Elliott) Couthen; grandchildren, Aubrie Thelen and Ashlyn Couthen; mother, Barbara Plesscher; siblings, Sue (Bill) Chandler, Judy (Tom) Abraham, Robert (Katy) Plesscher, Jim (Debbie) Plesscher, and Patty Plesscher. The viewing will be held Friday, September, 11, 3-6pm, at Riley Funeral Home, 426 W. St. Joseph St., Lansing, MI 48933. A second viewing will be held at Capital City Baptist Church, 5100 E. Willoughby Rd., Holt, MI 48842, from 9-10am, Saturday, September 12, with funeral services following at 10am. The family requests those attending the service show their support of William by dressing in his beloved teams colors, Green and White. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill's honor to Alano Club East, 220 S. Howard St., Lansing, MI 48912 or to Capital City Baptist Church (Deaf Chapel), 5100 E. Willoughby Rd. Holt, MI 48842.
