Obituary

William Henry Sweet Pea Aldridge was born in Blytheville, Arkansas to Sinclair and Eva Harris Aldridge on March 2, 1948. He moved to Lansing, Michigan at the age of 4 on October 22, 1952. He lived in Lansing most of his life. Sweet Pea attended Lansing Public Schools and received his GED from West Junior High. William worked construction as Cement Finisher. He was also well know for his lawn maintenance skills. Will accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and was united with Hillsdale Street Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Joe L. King and later under the late Reverend Charles J. Patterson at Union Missionary Baptist Church. William loved and cherished his family. He was known by everyone in the neighborhood for his famous whistle , which became his trademark. He was our family historian. If we needed to know about anybody or anything, he was the one that you could call on. He would know the answer. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Agnes L Aldridge. William completed his earthly journey on Sunday, February 9, 2014. Survivors include: his sisters, Earnice D. Husband and Cheryl L. Aldridge, both of Lansing; brother, Carl W. Aldridge of Lansing; special nieces, Karla M. (Willie Joe) Calloway, Shawnette L. Husband, Rhea D. (Michael) McCarty, and Tela-Moynai, all of Lansing; great-nephews, Michael S. McCarty, Jr., ReJere D. McCarty, and AaZan E. Reece, all of Lansing; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family, and friends, including special friends, Gladys Beckwith, Marcelette Williams, Cherie Watson, George Taylor, and Daniel Chapman. William will truly be missed.Mr. Aldridge will lie in repose Friday, February 14, 3-6pm, at the Riley Funeral Home, 426 W. St. Joseph St. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 15, 11am, at the funeral home. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the funeral service.
