The second issue of James Kenneth Adams and Evelyn Eloise Dixon Adams, Urania Ethelda Adams sprang joyfully into life March 2, 1942. She died December 12, 2015. She was a quiet child who preferred to stick close to home and stay out of trouble.
She fell in love with the boy next door and joined him, Emmitt James, in holy matrimony June 28, 1970, upon his return from the military. Together, they raised two rosebuds and a prickly pear.
Urania was a natural caregiver and her decision to become a licensed practical nurse suited her well. She excelled in homemaking and loved to decorate for the holidays and set a beautiful table. Active in her children's education, she started a program to reward middle school children for non-academic achievements and was a founding member of the Lansing Area PACMAC, a program in which parents encouraged children towards academic achievement.
The Church of Christ was her second home and she volunteered regularly to visit the sick and shut in. A social butterfly, Urania never knew a stranger. She was everybody's mother and was frequently called upon to counsel family and friends.
This charming northern belle is survived by her loving husband, Emmitt James; children, Travis James, Camille James and Carla James; grandchildren, Jaidon and Jordan; siblings, Glenda Cann, Toni Lewis, Jimmy Adams and Yvette Adams; aunts, Ida Partridge and Mary Kay Pringle; and a host of extended family.
Visitation will be held for Mrs. James on Thursday, December 17, 2015, 5-8pm at Holmes Road Church of Christ, 321 E. Holmes Road, Lansing, MI 48910. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 18, 2015, 2:30pm at Holmes Road Church of Christ.
