Tommie Jane
Chester
August 1, 1952 – January 22, 2021
Tommie Jane Chester was born August 1, 1952 to the parents of Elnora Roland and Ben Square. Tommie confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Galilee Baptist Church in Lansing, Michigan under the late Rev. Charles Tolbert. In 1970 she joined Shiloah Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev. Climmie Hughes. It was there, at Shiloah where she continued her faithful service to the Lord.
Tommie graduated from Sexton High School in Lansing, Michigan. It was from this foundation that she instilled the importance of an education to her children. After graduating from Sexton, she went to work for Motor Wheel, before finishing her career in In-home health care service.
Family was especially important to her. A loving wife, caring mother she was always giving of herself to help those most in need. Her warm smile and kind spirit had a way of bringing comfort to any situation and when needed most a positive word of encouragement. She loved plants and enjoyed testing out her green thumb through thoughtful flower displays in her plant beds. In the morning hours, you were sure to find her enjoying a hot cup of coffee with one of her beloved sisters.
Her life told a story that will continue to be written by those who loved and knew her. A blessed child of God that will never be forgotten.
Tommie was preceded in death by her sons, Myrun Chester and Milton Chester.
Tommie went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 22, 2021. She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Curtis Chester; sons, Devon Chester and Curtis Chester, Jr., of Lansing; mother, Elnora Roland; sisters, Mary Alice Roland, Martha Thomas and Mary Walker; and a host of, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
