Obituary

On January 26, 2020, Tamira Mitchell-Pompey transitioned from     this life following a 20-year battle with kidney disease.

Tamira was born May 18, 1974 in Lansing, Michigan to John and Leola Mitchell. She graduated from J. W. Sexton High School and was awarded a scholarship to Florida A & M University. She later graduated, Cum Laude, with a degree in Business from Lansing Community College. She continued take business courses at Siena Heights.

Tamira loved her family and had a never-wavering love for her children and grandchildren. She was mom, mama Duke, and a dear friend to many. She was "Yaya" to her grandchildren. Tamira was always willing to help everyone and always did it with a smile. She was very creative, resourceful and innovative. She made centerpieces, candles, beaded necklace, bracelets, earrings, graduation gift card boxes, and various wedding accessories.

Tamira was baptized into the Body of Christ at Mount Zion All Nations Bible Church on May 29, 1986. She sang with the Young Adult Choir and was the Pianist for the Youth Choir.

Tamira married Michael Pompey and two daughters, Mikera and Mikeisha Pompey, were born to this union.

Tamira was employed in various professions ending with retirement (disability) from Lansing Board of Water and Lights.

Tamira was preceded in death by: her grandparents; mother-in-law; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

In addition to her parents, her memories will live on through: husband, Michael Pompey; three devoted children, Jaylan, Mikera and Mikeisha; grandchildren, Harmony, Xavier, Amiyah, Jada, Anylah, and Skye; sister, Lenissa Mitchell of Detroit, MI; special friend, Markous Seibert; father-in-law, Willie Pompey, Jr.; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
