Obituary

Our beloved mother Sharon "Sherry" M. Olson, 79, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 22, 2021. She was born on June 2, 1941 in Williamston, Michigan. Sherry was a homemaker and mother to five children and stepmother to six stepchildren. She was a grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 15 step-grandchildren.

Earlier in life, Sherry worked as a pharmacy clerk, administrative assistance at McPherson Hospital, and a dispatcher for emergency ambulance services. She married Victor Morales Zuniga in 1960 and elected to become a stay-at-home mom. Sherry was a talented poet, crafter, and decorator. In her later years, she enjoyed bird-watching, collecting antique jewelry, and gardening. Throughout her life, she frequently received recognition for her ceramic, floral, and dressmaking handiworks.

Sherry loved spending time with her sisters Terri and Marti, and other friends and family members who shared her interests and passions. She enjoyed traveling to Florida and Tennessee, visiting state parks, collecting four-leaf clover, flowers, and leaves for pressing, and relished spending as much time outside when she was able.

She was a caring and compassionate person with a quick wit and a kindhearted spirit. Her philosophy in life was "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Sherry cherished her children, stepchildren, and grandchildren with all of her heart. She was loved immensely and will be profoundly missed.

She was preceded in death by: her granddaughter, Janelle Zuniga-Munoz; stepson, Chad Olson; stepdaughter, Terri Ann Olson; ex-husband, Bobby Lee Olson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arnulfo and Becky Zuniga; brother-in-law, Ken Mandell; brother-in-law, Fritz Grigo; former in-laws, Miguel and Julia Zuniga; niece, Lisa Smith; father, Don Sessions; mother, Dorothy Fairbanks-Sessions; brother, Donald W. Sessions; niece, Vicki Kirby; and her sister, Pam Gordon.

Sherry is survived by: her daughters, Julie and Jamie; her sons, Victor (Laura) and Eric (Veronica); and stepchildren, Tanya, Sean (Magdalena), Trinette (Scott), and Tricia (Jeremy). She is also survived by: her sisters, Terri Smith (Dave), Marti  Parks (Tim), Shelley Heikkinen; brother, Dale Sessions; stepsisters, Roze Gunderman (Kenny) and Deanna Abreu (Matt); and stepbrothers, Chip Dansby (Tina) and Loren Black (Maggie). Also surviving Sherry are many former brothers and sisters-in law, several nieces and nephews, and her many precious grandchildren.

A memorial will be held at a later date—to be determined based on Covid numbers in Michigan. Friends wishing to honor Sherry are invited to make a donation in her name to Lansing City Rescue Mission Women's Shelter.
