Obituary

Born in Bowling Texas on August 26, 1931, Seferino Mejia's life was rife with hardship.

His early life was no exception to this. From his mother leaving his father and him at a young age, to his father dying when he was eight years old. After his father's death he was forced to search for his mother, this search would bring him over the border of Mexico and almost killing him in the process.

A shepherd found the young Seferino on the verge of death outside of Maztlan and nursed him back to health. After regaining his strength, he showed the shepherd a letter that had been given to him by the chief of his reservation and the shepherd subsequently sent him in the direction of Ignacio Allende, a town in the state of Durango. It is here he reunited with his mother, and it is here he would stay with her until he turned 16. He returned to the U.S. shortly after this and ventured back to Mexico shortly afterwards.

He was deported back to the U.S. by Mexican Immigration and it is with this he started his journey across the West, through the South and finally settled in Michigan. It is here he met his long-time wife, Caroline, and where they raised a family of 20 children. It is also here, where Seferino Mejia passed on June 30, 2021 in the home of his youngest daughter, surrounded by his family.

He is preceded in death by: his loving wife, Caroline; and eight of his 20 children. He left much love on this Earth and is survived by many grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was well-loved and will be missed greatly.
