Ruby Gene Canada was born June 21, 1949 in Evansville, Indiana to Alex Sr. and Annie McClain. Ruby moved to Lansing, Michigan, at an early age and attended the Lansing School District. She graduated from Eastern High School. Ruby retired from the United States Post Office in East Lansing, Michigan. Ruby was baptized at the Galilee Baptist Church by Pastor Kirklin D. Hall, Sr. Ruby loved spending time with her family and many friends. No one was a stranger to her. She loved to cook, paint portraits, and make Christmas wreaths with her sister. Ruby relocated to Ft. Worth, Texas in 2010 with her daughter, Lisa. She became a member of the Sweet Home Baptist Church. Rubys favorite song was, Amazing Grace . Ruby was preceded in death by: husband, Roy Canada; parents; and brothers, Alex McClain, Jr. and James Edward McClain. Ruby went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, with her loving children and grandchildren by her beside. She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Lisa Bowers-Johnson of Ft. Worth, Texas and Minrell Bowers-Peterson of Atlanta, Georgia; son, Lamarr Henry Bowers of Lansing; grandchildren, LaNova Bowers of Lansing, Brakel and India Jones of Atlanta, Georgia, China and Chrystal Pinkney of Fort Worth, Texas, Anthony, Alex, Lamarr Henry, Jr. and Ayla Bowers, all of Lansing; brothers, Billy (Tanya) McClain and George McClain, both of Lansing, Peter McClain of East Lansing, Michigan, Charles McClain of Detroit, Michigan, Richard McClain of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mark McClain of Evansville, Indiana, and Frank McClain of Battle Creek, Michigan; sisters, Verna (Michael )Aimery, Excell (Vern) Daniels, and Katherine (Timothy) Barber, all of Lansing, Dorothy Rivera of Charlotte, North Carolina and Annette (John) Bentley of Milford, Michigan; sister-in-law, Avery Smith; brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Canada; and a host of other relatives and friends. Friends may visit Mrs. Canada, Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 3-6 pm at Riley Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Friday, October 26, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Galilee Baptist Church 2511 Reo Rd. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
