Obituary

Richard James Kalchik, age 66, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 23, 2022 from lung cancer. Rick was born on June 7, 1956 in Milwaukee, WI to James and Virginia (Popp) Kalchik. He graduated from Lansing Catholic High School in 1974 and attended college at John Carroll University.

Rick settled in Holt with his wife, Lynne (Boogard); daughter, Kati; step-daughter, Sarah, and various dogs that he claimed not to like, but was often caught petting. He worked at GM and later as a truck driver, most recently for Ryder. He and Lynne moved to Winter Garden, FL where they spent many years before moving back to Dimondale earlier this year.

Rick enjoyed golf, warm sunny days, playing and coaching basketball and softball, spending time in the Leelanau peninsula, bowling, and now this is genuinely shocking, Hallmark movies. Rick passed on his love of history, riddles, and card games to his daughters. He passed on several pearls of wisdom as well such as, "Take a chance, Columbus did" and "Don't bet on the third horse in the eighth race."

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Jim and Ginny Kalchik. He is survived by: his wife, Lynne Kalchik; daughter, Kati Kalchik; step-daughter, Sarah (Josh) Murgittroyd; grandchildren, Molly, Charlie, Josie, and Lily; sisters, Sylvia (Chuck) Efken, Rita (Herb) Cradduck, Donna (Bob) Law, and Synthia Corson; brothers, Ron (Laura), Dan (Lisa), and Don; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will hold a private celebration of life on a hopefully warm and sunny day next year. In lieu of flowers or memorial contributions, please just quit smoking and encourage your family and friends to do the same.

There will be no services at this time for Mr. Kalchik.
