Purdell (Mickey) Thomas Hoskins Jr. was born April 12, 1951 in Harvey Illinois to the union of Purdell Hoskins Sr. and Effie Mae Saulsberry. Purdell relocated to Lansing, Michigan in 1969. He attended Eastern High School where he met Josie Cruz and upon graduating they were married. From that union the couple had to sons: Purdell Thomas Hoskins III and Eric Kareem Hoskins. He was drafted in the United States Army in 1971 and was honorably discharged November 21, 1983. In 1986, Purdell worked at Michigan State University in Food Service. He also worked for the State of Michigan at Jackson Correctional Facility in Food Service where he retired on disability. Purdell loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved Chicago, martial arts, music, cooking, cars, guns, clothes, entertaining, children and family. One could say, he was the life of the party. In 1990, Purdell gave his life to the Lord. In 2004 he rededicated his life to the Lord while attending Living Word Outreach Church. In 2007, Purdell became a member of Abundant Grace Faith Church, and was faithful in attending the services. He was baptized and served as an Usher, Security Guard, the Care and Hospitality Ministries. While attending AGFC, Purdell fell in love with Diane Austin in 2009. He proposed to her in September of 2010 and they were married May 28, 2011. Purdell was preceded in death by his parents: Purdell Hoskins Sr., step-father and mother, Albert J. and Effie Mae Dixon. On Sunday evening, March 2, 2014, Purdell Thomas Hoskins Jr, transitioned from this life to go home to be with the Lord. He leaves in Gods loving care: his wife Diane; sons: Purdell (Dawnette) of Fort Polk, LA., and Eric (Erica) of Lansing, MI.; two brothers: Albert Hoskins of Harvey, Ill., and Louis (Pamela) Dixon Sr. of Lansing, MI; Uncle: Charles (Geraldine) Saulsberry of Monee, Ill.; Aunt: Dorothy Bogard of Harvey, Ill.; grandchildren: Yasmin, Micah, Landon, Ellek and Yohan; great-grandchildren: Romeo, Carmel and Audrina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Hoskins will lie in repose Thursday, March 6, 9am-7pm at the Riley Funeral Home, 426 West St. Joseph Street, Lansing, MI 48933. Funeral services for Mr. Hoskins will be held Friday, March7, 11am at the Abundant Grace Faith Church, 5750 S. Cedar St., Lansing, MI 48910.
