Obituary

Pearlie M. Welch went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on February 14, 1930, in Selma, Alabama, Pearl was the eldest daughter of the late Charlotte Fisher and Lee Moultrie. From a young age, she was known for her social nature and passion for caring for others. Her first job was as a candy striper at Lloyd Noland Hospital in Fairfield, Alabama, a role that set the foundation for her lifelong dedication to service.

Pearl accepted Christ in her early teens at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Alabama. She later married the late David A. Welch Sr., and together they were blessed with five beautiful children: David, Eartha, Napoleon, Lloyd, and Ruby.

Her passion for caregiving led her to a career at Ingham Medical Facility, where she worked as a nursing assistant before becoming an activities director. Even in retirement, Pearl continued caring for the elderly in her spare time, embodying her deep commitment to helping others.

A devoted member of Friendship Baptist Church, Pearl served faithfully as a Deaconess and dedicated many years to her church community.

Pearl had a love for travel. She and her two sisters, Inez and Linda, took yearly trips, exploring destinations from the West Coast of the U.S. to Israel, making meaningful connections along the way.

You could often find Pearl at home tending to her garden and flower bed. She also enjoyed shopping and had an amazing sense of style.

She is preceded in death by: her husband, David A. Welch Sr.; special friend, Adam Washington; and children, David A. Welch Jr., Napoleon Welch, and Eartha Welch.

Pearl will be deeply missed by: her son, Lloyd Welch; daughter, Ruby (Greg) Bogan; and her beloved grandchildren, Kamari Welch, Jenell Bogan, Lamar Demoss of Texas, Danielle Welch, Leonard (Julia) Welch of Georgia and Gretchen Bogan. She also leaves behind a host of cherished nieces, nephews, and close friends who will forever hold her memory dear.
