Patrice Linette
Giles
May 27, 1961 – August 3, 2025
Patrice Linette Giles was born Patrice Linette Denning on May 27,1961, in Lansing, Michigan, to her parents Willie Lee Denning, Sr. and Mary
Elizabeth Denning. Patrice brought light, laughter, and a giving spirit to everyone she met from the very beginning.
Patrice attended Lansing Public Schools and graduated from Eastern High School in 1979. She also attended Harry Hill Vocational Center, where she studied quantum cooking. Later in life Patrice chose to continue her education at Lansing Community College, where she studied welding.
Patrice's most cherished role was being a mother to her two beloved daughters: Leedon (Jackson) Kelley and Mary Giles. Her heart grew even
fuller when she met her soulmate, Otis Giles. The two were married in May, 1989 and built a marriage filled with love, faith, and laughter until Otis
passed on March 1, 2022.
Patrice accepted Christ early in life and served God faithfully. She was a devoted member and minister of Pennsylvania Avenue Original Church of God and participated in many different ministries like, Sunday school, and the church choir. She left an impact on her church family when she took over the breakfast ministry and prepared breakfast after Sunday school every week. Through this ministry she was able to make people feel welcome, loved, and fed not only physically but spiritually. She found joy working in the children's ministry and loved the children of the church as her own.
Patrice was known to be a dedicated and hard worker. She held a position in the accounts receivable department of Plante & Moran and was also a bus driver for Dean transportation. She later spent years as a cook at Michigan State University, where her cooking skills and care nourished
many.
Patrice found joy in life's simple pleasures such as watching TV. Some of her favorite shows included
In the Heat of the Night
,
Bones
, and
Family Feud
. She enjoyed movie nights, traveling, quilting, making crafts, cooking meals, and planning events that brought her family together. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, pouring into them the same love, wisdom, and joy she shared with everyone. Patrice was a part-time comedian and was always truthful and blunt.
She was preceded in death by: her father, Willie Lee Denning Sr.; her beloved husband, Otis Giles; and her sister, Jetton E. Jamerson.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her mother, Mary E. Denning; daughters, Leedon (Shawn) Kelley and Mary Giles; grandchildren, Beyonce Hernandez, Athyliah Hernandez, Gabriel Hernandez, Pauline Kelley, Priscilla Kelley, Santiago McAbee, and Serenity Kelley; great-grandchildren, Mateo and Leonardo Flores; and siblings, Rueben (Margaret) Arnold, Adrian Arnold, Donna Arnold, Denise (Darrold) Burroughs, Willie (Mary Louise) Denning, Darlene Denning, Dwight (Gloria) Denning, Steven (Kim) Denning, Mark (Angela) Denning Sr., Brian (Rasheeda) Denning; and many other family members, church family and friends.
