Ora Lee Suddeth Fuggie (Amos) Garrett was born as the 8th child & 4th daughter to the late Reverend Richard & Ledora Suddeth on July 25, 1936.
Ora was a member of City Of Zion Church in Jackson, MI and a lifetime member of the United Harmonizers Gospel Singers of Jackson, MI. A few of her favorite songs were: Sending Up My Timber, I trust in God and their theme song; Did You Stop To Pray This Morning. She attended Jackson Public schools and graduated from Sexton High School in Lansing, MI. She was a member of The Rose of Sharon Order of Eastern Stars and was a certified member of the International Transactional Analysis Association, counseling in Personal Awareness.
Ora worked for the Lansing School District for 32 years. She was also employed by the Board of Mental Health. Ora earned an Associate Degree in Human Services at Lansing Community College, an Associate Degree in Arts at Delta College, a Bachelor of Arts in Education at Michigan State University, a Bachelor of Arts as well as a Master of Arts Degree in Education at Saginaw Valley State College. She completed courses offered in Transactional Analysis and Federated Tax Service meeting the requirements to become a member of the National Society of Tax Professionals. Ora supported the U.S. Veterans of Foreign Wars and received certificates of appreciation for her faithful support.
Ora was a very talented seamstress and gifted artist. She created many personalized cards, educational games and various learning tools. She loved scrapbooking, collecting photographs and making doll houses. Her gifts and talents were recognized by Board Game Companies, TV Show Hosts and the Lansing State Journal. Her creativeness has touched the lives of many people.
Ora was preceded in death by: Her Parents, Husband; David Garrett, Brothers; JC, Richard, James, Claudelle and Gerald, Sisters; Desseree (Desi) , Mildred, Leoma and Lou Ella.
On March 27, 2014 Ora was called home to be with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children; Valarie Amos, Dori (Jodie) Davis, Ky Amos Sr. and David Garrett, 13 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren, 2 sisters; Greta Stewart, Joyce Potter and one brother, Charles Suddeth all of Jackson, MI, many cousins; numerous nieces, nephews; Ms. Terry Sarah Nicks, Bunny Arthur Glasscoe, Linda Walls, Lois McNeeley, Emma Glover, Donna Gomez and many other special family friends.
Her advisement to all is found in the Bible in the book of Joshua, chapter 1, verse 9:
Have I not commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage, be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee wither-soever thou goest
Mrs. Garrett will lie in repose Monday, April 7, 3-7pm, at the Riley Funeral Home, 426 W. St. Joseph St., Lansing, MI 48933. Funeral services for Mrs. Garrett will be held Tuesday, April 8, 12pm, at Mt. Zion All Nations Bible Church, 10575 S. Krepps Road, DeWitt, MI 48820.
