Olivia I. Letts passed away on February 1, 2021 in Chicago, Illinois at the age of 93. She is predeceased by her husband, Richard Letts. She is survived by her daughter, Eileen Letts (Christmas) and her two grandchildren, Robert and Matthew whom she adored. She was the first African American teacher in the Lansing school system in 1951 and went on to retire as the Director of Elementary education in 1985. She received numerous awards and accolades throughout her lifetime. She always said that she wanted everyone to remember that she had a wonderful life.
