Obituary

Odell Porter was born on February 3, 1935, to the late Mary Jane and Isom Porter in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi.

Odell attended elementary school in Mississippi up to seventh grade at which time he, like his brothers before him, left school to work in the lumber industry with his father.

In 1965 he met and married Susie Collins of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In 1970 he and his wife moved to Lansing, MI, where he was gainfully employed at General Motors until his retirement. While working for General Motors, Odell decided to return to school and obtained his G.E.D. Until his health began to decline, he was a faithful member of Bethlehem Temple Church and The Bread House.

Odell Porter departed this life on January 12 at Sparrow Hospital.

Odell was preceded in death by: his parents, Mary Jane and Isom Porter; his three sisters, Josephine, Icephine and Ethel Mae of Chicago; eight brothers, Reverend G.L. Porter, Enoch Porter of Lansing, Elder Monroe Porter, Ivory Porter, Henry Porter of Chicago, Reverend Willie Porter, Jimmy Porter, and James Porter of Bogue Chitto, MS. He leaves to mourn his homegoing: his special niece and caregiver, Brenda Porter-Miller; and a host of nieces and nephews who thought very fondly of him.
