Nehemiah Powell, fondly known as Jake, parted this life and went into eternity on August 17, 2021 at the age of 78 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI.

Nehemiah was born to Joe and Mary M. Elms Powell on September 21, 1942 and was the fourth of 17 children. He accepted Christ and was  baptized at early age at Macedonia Baptist Church under leadership Rev. BB Strowder, Pastor in Bessemer, AL. After graduating from Brighton High School, he married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Griffin, and relocated to Lansing, Michigan. After 30 years of service, he retired from the City of Lansing. Jake was loved and adored by his friends and family, and put smiles on people's faces wherever he went. He had many talents and worked well with his hands, which painting and drawing were his favorite past time.

Nehemiah was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Anzie Powell; brothers, Moses Powell, Shedric Powell; and special friend, Kelli Rodgers. He leaves behind to cherish his memory: daughters: Sonya (Rodrick) Cook, Sabrena; sons, Anthony, Daryl Oliver Sr.; grandchildren, Charles Walker, Deshawn Alan, William Calvin ll, Jordan, Dominique Sims Sr., Daryl Oliver jr., Darian Oliver, Alyssa Herrera, all of Lansing, MI; siblings, twin brother Jeremiah with whom he shared a special bond, Rochelle (King) Westberry, Phillip of Hartford, CT., Grantham (Gwen) of Bloomfield, CT., Joseph (Dorothy) of Windsor, CT., Mary (Jefferson) Moore of Pleasant Grove, AL., Abraham of Hueytown, AL., Taphas of Birmingham, AL., Shantay, Roy, Gloria of Bessemer, AL., Donna (Eddy) Osayimwese of Detroit, MI., Janice Beasley of Lansing, MI.; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and friends.
