Obituary

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and Lansing School's "Nurse Traill" was called home Tuesday, September 3rd.

Nancy Wannebo Traill was born in Tacoma, Washington in 1931 to Jean and Joseph Wannebo.   She attended the historic and famous Stadium High in Tacoma, a distinctive school campus featured in movies.  Nancy always loved movies and was proud of those that featured her high school. After graduation, she attended St. Joseph's Nursing School and earned her RN degree.

Nancy married her high school sweetheart, Frederick Traill soon after.  They followed his army career to California where their first two children, Scott and Kim, were born. Their second son, Mark, was born after a move back to Seattle. Soon, they were resettling in Texas. The family finally settled for good in Lansing, Michigan in 1961, where their son, Brion, was born.

Nancy worked as a nurse and raised her four children, eventually taking a job as a school nurse for the Lansing School District in 1970.  She worked many years at Beekman Center, then Dwight Rich Middle School, and finished her career at Everett High School.  She was easily recognized all over Lansing for her distinctive white hair.  The greeting "Nurse Traill!" would often ring out in malls and restaurants.  Nancy worked as a school nurse until her retirement in 1998.  She loved being a school nurse and adored her students and colleagues.

Nancy spent her time in retirement helping others and enjoying her family and friends.  She was someone others could always depend on for a kind word, a thoughtful note, or a lingering conversation over lunch.  Nancy was a welcome guest at parties, where her sense of humor and ready camera recorded many memories.  She took friends to appointments and helped anyone in need.  Nancy never missed an opportunity to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Her lovely light and laughter will be missed by all who knew her.

Nancy is preceded in death by: her parents; two of her children, Scott Frederick Traill and Brion Joseph Traill both formerly of Lansing; and her grandson, Nathaniel Jon Traill formerly of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Nancy is survived by: her two children, Kimberly (Daniel) Stephens of Portland, and Mark (Brenda) Traill of Indiana; two grandchildren, Ben (Jennie Rounds) Stephens and Katie (Mark) Meyers; and four great-grandchildren, Grace Stephens, Mark, Bradley and Derek Meyers.
