Nancy Lee Lightfoot was born June 1, 1935 in Jackson, Michigan to Don and Leone (Rorher) Fall. Nancy went to be with the Lord Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by: both parents, Don and Leone Fall, a brother William Fall, a daughter Jerri Kay Lightfoot, a "sister" Barbara Dean and the love of her life Jerry King Lightfoot.
Nancy graduated from Jackson High School in 1953. After high school she attended Comptometer School. In the early 1960's she taught Sunday School and sang Christian music at a local Jackson radio station. By the mid 1960's, Nancy, her three children and, then, husband, Jerry Lightfoot moved to Lansing, Michigan. Where she resided on Martin St. the rest of her life.
During her years in Lansing, Nancy worked at a housekeeper at MSU. She worked at Owen Hall until her retirement in the early 1980's. In later years she became a neighborhood activist and a founding member of the Fabulous Acres Neighborhood Association.
She helped provide Christmas for needy families in the area, she visited the sick and elderly, often running errands for them, or taking them to appointments. She taxied neighborhood children to and from school in her car. She took in the homeless on numerous occasions to help them get back on their feet, and she fed anyone that was hungry. She was affectionately known as "Grandma" to all that knew her.
In 1998, Nancy won the Lansing area Bea Christy Award for her dedication and love of her neighborhood, and the people in it. In the late 1990's-2000's, she became involved with volunteering at the Baker Donara Center as well. Nancy lived a very happy and fulfilling life.
She is survived by a brother, Jed (JO) Fall, daughter Betsy Barnhill (Rudy), son, Mike Fall (Norman), grandchildren, Jerry Lightfoot (Shanna), Mickey Lightfoot (Shay), Demetrius Gardenhire, Amanda Collins-Lightfoot (Joia), and Jessica Vladar. Great grandchildren Matthew Ethington, Elena Jimenez, Brandon, Mickaia, Milani, Maejor, Victoria, and Mila Lightfoot. Numerous extended family and friends in her community.
There will be a Memorial service held for Ms. Nancy Lee Lightfoot on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Riley Funeral Home, 426 West Saint Joseph Street, Lansing, Michigan. Family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.rileyfuneralhome.com.
