Obituary

Mittie Louise Keys was born on October 9, 1936, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to the late Ophelia and Zack McIntyre, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Jacqueline McIntyre. Mittie relocated to Lansing, Michigan in 1960 and departed this life to be with our Lord and Savior on May 19, 2024. She passed away peacefully in the care of her daughters after a short battle with cancer. Her final precious days and moments were spent in her home in East Lansing surrounded by family.

Known for her small stature, beautiful hazel eyes, fun and kind nature; Mittie loved her family and wanted nothing but the best for her children and grandchildren. Mittie was a State of Michigan Civil Service retiree and a member of the missionary society and a church mother of Galilee Baptist Church. She was a dedicated member of the Capitol City Temple #308 for over 50 years and served in various leadership capacities including bearing the titles of: Daughter Ruler, Loyal Daughter Ruler of Western District Council #150, Grand District Deputy, Financial Secretary, Esteem Past State President, member of the Past State President Club, and Past Grand Daughter Ruler. She was most recently honored as the eldest District Deputy and finally Grand Daughter Ruler Emeritus. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and served with her.

Mittie's family asks that she be remembered for the joy and kindness she brought to others in life, not the sadness of her passing. She is survived by: her daughters, Cynthia Morrell, Phyllis Keys, Deborah Keys Write, Karen (Clifford) Turner, and Marjorie Powell; her beloved 11 grandchildren, Michael Morrell, Richard (LaDonna) Morrell, Maurice (LaKeesha) Morrell, Dominic Morrell, Kiera (Jerrod) Berry, Morgan McIntyre, Tony Keys, Javelle (Shaquita) Redmond, Darnell (Kyler) Redmond, Brandon (Alise) Turner, and Whitney Turner; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

The visitation and celebration of life will be held at Galilee Baptist Church, 2511 Reo Road, Lansing, Michigan 48911 on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, beginning at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends and extended family in the Fellowship Hall after Interment.
