Mr. Michael McFadden, also known as "Mighty Mike" McFadden was born to Fredrick "Chico" and Gladys Mae McFadden on October 10, 1958 in Lansing, Michigan. Michael was raised in Lansing, Michigan and was the second oldest of four brothers. As a child, Michael was very outspoken and was destined to be a pillar in the community. He used his God given voice to do good!
Mike was inspired by his mother, Gladys McFadden to seek God at a young age. Michael dedicated his life to Christ and joined Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Ferdinand Fritz. He was an active member serving as Secretary of the Board of Trustees and running the Audio System. Later, he became a member of Friendship House of Prayer Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor David Ford. Michael loved the Lord, loved his church family and was committed to his Faith. Michael enjoyed singing with the "Harold's of Faith" choir, and continued serving as the Audio Technician. Michael answered God's call to unite with Him in heaven and entered into Glory in the morning of October 10, 2022 at age 64 on his birthday.
Michael attended elementary, junior high and high school in the Lansing School District. Graduating from J.W. Sexton High School with the class of 1976. He was a good student and multi-sport athlete. He went on to attend Lansing Community College and Michigan State University studying Broadcasting/Journalism and Communications. Michael's career path led him to Power 96.5 FM and WXLA 1180 AM radio stations beginning in 1984 using his baritone voice, was branded "Mighty Mike." Continuing on to local TV station, TV 6 News as a news reporter, Mike's alias was" Mike Elliot" as news reporter. Michael was discovered by the related television network in Buffalo New York only to return to Michigan because their winters were more unbearable than Michigan's winters. Can you imagine Michael, only standing 5'8" with his deep rich Baritone voice, that was compared to "Barry White," he captured everyone's attention?
Michael's commitment to serving the Greater Lansing area and being a part of the many community events are unlimited. Michael's involvement with the Lansing Juneteenth Committee dates back to 2005 as he was the primary stage announcer for all of our Festival Main Stage activities. He coordinated the youth activity "Steppin-Out-In-Faith" Youth Step Teams competition that included many of Lansing's local Black Churches for the 12

annual Juneteenth Celebration. Michael continued to serve until his health prevented him from doing so. Michael was the marketing and communications talent behind ad promotions with Lansing's Black community newspapers, The Michigan Bulletin and the Chronicle News. Michael loved working in sales and writing press releases for many charitable events. He had a way with words and created many interesting slogans and catchy phrases. Michael was the "Voice" behind the city of Lansing's Annual 4
th
of July Parade and enjoyed being the announcer for many years.
Michael had a great love and passion for all of his family. His daughters meant the world to him and he would always say "my kids and grands give me purpose." Aunt Marian held a special place in his heart. In his adult life, she was his spiritual mentor and prayer partner. Michael was strong in his faith and his love for the Lord as he endured his struggle with kidney disease to the very end.
Michael is preceded in death by: his parents, Frederick "Chico" McFadden, Sr. and Gladys Mae McFadden; wife, Kennetha McFadden; brothers, Kenneth McFadden and Steven McFadden; infant daughter, Michelle Victoria McFadden. He leaves to cherish his memory: daughters, Myka (Terrell) Davis and Kendra (Kalynn) Williams Sr.; stepson, DeShawn (Christi) Flowers; brother, Frederick (LaLarie) McFadden, Jr.; special aunts, Marian Scott and Mary Plummer; special uncle, James Davis, Jr.; nephews, Darius McFadden and Steven "Chico" McFadden, Jr.; niece, Jasmine McFadden; grandchildren, DeAsia Davis, Khar'ee Davis, Kyren Davis, Kalynn M. Williams Jr, Kayonna Williams, Kaydynce Williams; step granddaughter, Zarae Flowers; great grandchild, Princeton Emory; great nephew, Gurpreet McFadden Singh.; great nieces, Jazlyn McFadden and Camryn McFadden; and many other relatives and friends.
