Michael Anthony
Gualandi
June 23, 1961 – April 16, 2021
Michael Anthony Gualandi was born to the late Grace Ann Summers and Joseph Gualandi on June 23, 1961 in Gary, Indiana. From this relationship, Sonya Lynn Summers and Pierre Derrick Summers were conceived.
He grew up in Gary, Indiana, Detroit, and Lansing Michigan. He attended Cass Tech High, Harry Hill and graduated from Sexton, High School in 1979. He was the only black male on Harry Hill's swimming team his junior and senior year, and took great pride in this accomplishment. He loved art and calligraphy. Michael briefly attended Lansing Community College.
As a young boy, he confessed his belief in the Lord while attending St. Luke A.M.E Zion Church in Gary, Indiana. Before his transition, he verbally rededicated his life to the Lord by reciting Romans 10: 9-10.
He was very adventurous and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed canoeing, basketball, Frisbee, and bike riding, which are attributes he passed on to his many nephews and nieces.
Michael worked several jobs. Among them were Fisher Body, Meijer, and as a catering assistant for Mama Shaff's Kitchen for over 15 years.
Michael's passion and care for animals was evident in his deep love for his rescue cat, Diyah.
He was very supportive of his family and friends. He attended every occasion and event by traveling near and far to witness these milestones. He didn't know a stranger and was always willing to give a helping hand and would go out of his way to assist those in need. He greeted everyone with his radiant smile, unselfish character and humble personality. To know him, was to love him. He demonstrated kindness with his actions by placing others before himself.
Mike had an infectious laugh and was full of humor that rubbed off on others. He was courageous in life as well as in his transition to be with the Lord.
He leaves to treasure his memories: five siblings, Sonya Lynn Summers Shaffner of Lansing, Michigan, Pierre (Karla) Summers of Columbus, Georgia, Caren Gualandi of Dallas, Texas, Rosemary (Jimmy) Reed of Indiana, and Steve (Paula) Gualandi of Hobart, Indiana; three nephews, Charles Leon Whitby II, Pierre Derrick Summers II (Tracie), Korre Marselle (Bianca) Summers; five nieces, Maisha Irene Whittington, Megan Gualandi, Tifani Grace (JaCori) Summers, Tammi Lynn Summers, Christina Pamela Shaffner; seven great nephews and five great nieces along with a host of cousins and many friends. He is preceded in death by: his siblings, Diana and Joseph Gualandi.
