Mesfun Michael of Tzeazega, Eritrea, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 5, 2021 at his home in Lansing.
He was born in Asmara, Eritrea on January 1, 1973 from his parents, Ato Michael Asgedom and Weizero Tigisti Ghebregziabiher. He is survived by: his wife Senait Andebrhan; children, Nahom, Danait, and Betty; brothers, Filmon, Henok, and Ataklti; several uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Mesfun attended Mereb and Bana Elementary and Middle schools, respectively. He completed his high school from Keyih Bahri Secondary School. In 1992, after a brief stay in Addis Ababa and Germany, Mesfun moved to the United States of America settling in the State of Michigan. On September 12, 2012, he and Senait were married. After earning his first degree from Michigan State University, he lived and practiced his professional field in Lansing, MI until his day of passing. All together he lived in Michigan for almost three decades.
Mesfun had a passion for his country and people. He advocated for and was actively engaged in Eritrean independence. After Eritrea's independence, he visited his original home county on several occasions and spent his time with his beloved grandfather, Girazmach Ghebregziabiher Buiba, other family members and friends. He has always been passionate about his extended family and friends, remembering minute details of occasions he spent with them. They in turn have a fond memory of him as peach loving, kind, wise, patient, trustworthy and supportive.
He was an avid lover of soccer and one of the best players the Gejeret (Afrika) football team had ever seen.
May the Lord Almighty accept him in Heaven. Amen!
