Obituary

Maxine Morrell Blair of Lansing, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on May 29, 2021. She was born to the late Reverend David Morrell and Ruth E. Williams-Morrell on December 31, 1956. She attended public school in both Ionia and Lansing, graduating from J.W Sexton High School and continued her education by taking college courses. Maxine accepted Christ at an early age and united with Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.  Maxine spent most of her career dedicated to public service working for Michigan State University, The Board of Water and Light and Maximus Inc.  She retired in 2005 due to health reasons.

After retiring, Maxine volunteered at the Schmidt Community Center and helped local Seniors enjoy daily activities. She was a very kind, compassionate caregiver that would provide service with a smile, even on the days when smiling was a challenge. Maxine was very creative.  Knitting and crocheting blankets and scarves were one of her special gifts. She also loved to read, listen to music, dance and go to the casino with friends and family for fun.

Maxine was briefly united in marriage with Robert Blair and from this union her youngest daughter, Mariah, was born. In addition to Mariah she was a devoted Mother to Makeda and Kyra. Motherhood was Maxine's biggest challenge, yet greatest joy. Her love for and commitment to family, both by blood and by choice, was unwavering. Maxine would often humbly reflect on, and give thanks for, the "village" that supported her with raising her girls when she was unable.

Maxine was preceded in death by: her father, Rev. David Morrell; her sister, Kimberly Davis; and her daughters, Makeda Morrell and Mariah Huston. She leaves to cherish her memory: mother, Ruth Morrell; daughter, Kyra LaRae Spaulding; brothers and sisters, Phillip Williams, Ronnie Morrell, Ella Jackson (Clyde), Beatrice Jordan and Teresa Scruggs; two son-in-laws, George Washington and Joseph Huston; grandchildren, Shacoya, Raequel, Az'Janae, Elizabeth, Kristopher, Victoria, Adrienne, Joseph Tyce, Zakiya and Layla; one great-grandson, Ma-Kai; two uncles, Johnnie Williams Jr. and Willis (Bobby Joe) Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
