Obituary

Mary Olga Rivera, born October 21, 1945, known as Olga to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2022, in the  comfort of her home, under the loving care of her family and Sparrow Home Hospice after battling cancer for 10 long years. Olga was born in Crystal City, TX, and established her family in Lansing, MI. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Jose Hernandez and Rita Hernandez Diaz; brothers, Hector  Hernandez and Andy Hernandez; son, Jose Andres Rivera; and grandson, Manolo Rivera.

A devoted mother, Olga enjoyed life. Her biggest joys were spent watching novellas and her beloved MSU Spartans, attending church and being at home with her family. She provided the best care possible to her family which brought her lots of happiness.

Olga worked at Michigan State University for the Upward Bound College Prep Program for over 30 years. Her work infused support in young students' educational experiences.

Surviving her are: three children, Alejandro 'Alex' Rivera, Fernando 'Nano' Antonio (Khristine) Rivera, Martha Alicia Hernandez; five grandchildren, Jose Andres, Alejandro Valentin, Rosario Davene, Nixon Antonio, Maceo Blessed; brothers, Jose Hernandez, Juan Armando Hernandez, Lazaro Hernandez; sisters, MaryLou Razo, Margot DeLeon, Rita Hernandez, Nancy Mercado, and Diana Espino.

In honor of her wishes, she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church, 2202 Donora St, Lansing, MI, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 18. Pastor Tim Craft will be officiating.
