Mary Roberta Quarterman was born January 21, 1947 in Jacksonville, Florida to John and Adeline Quarterman. She graduated from Matthew Gilbert High School in Jacksonville, Florida, and later, relocated to Lansing, Michigan. She attended Lansing Community College. She retired from Sparrow Hospital, after more than 30 years of service. Mary was honored as being the first African American nurse on the Heart Transplant Team at Sparrow. She was currently working at Letts Community Center, as the Senior Event Planner. Mary enjoyed helping others, cooking, baking and took special joy working with seniors and children. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Sharon and Ida. Mary made her transition to her heavenly home on February 17, 2012. She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Selena (Mark); granddaughter, Asia; brothers, John (Beverly), Paul (Linda) , and Brent Quarterman and Henry Young; sisters, Josephine Young and Sylvia (David) Hicks; godmother, Johnnie Mae Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and very dear friends, Sarah Sims, Juanita Word, Beatrice Hoskins and long time friend, Sylvester Stewart.
