Obituary

Mary Ruth Plummer was born on November 1, 1932 to James Hubbard Davis and Mary Morris in Birmingham, AL. She is the second child of seven sisters and two brothers and the oldest daughter.

Mary, affectionately called “Ruth,” accepted Christ at an early age in Birmingham, AL. The family later moved to Lansing, MI due to her father getting hired by Fisher Body and joined Friendship Baptist Church in Lansing, MI with her family. She graduated from Sexton High School in 1952.

She was joined in marriage to Henderson Robert Plummer on December 18, 1954.They were blessed with six children: Larry, Marilyn, Debra, Marsha, Marla (deceased) and Henry and later her granddaughter Tyrickia Plummer became part of the family. Mary moved her membership from Friendship Baptist Church to Mask Memorial CME Church where her husband was a member to keep the family in one church. She loved to work in the church and taught her children to do the same. She loved sharing the love of Christ and inviting people to her church. She was committed to salvation and service. She especially loved being a Missionary and Stewardess.

Mary was blessed with many talents like her husband. She was a great cook, and seamstress. She worked in the Custom Drapery Department at Sears and Roebuck, and went on to own her own Re-Upholstery business when she retired.

After raising her children, she became a Foster Parent for the State of Michigan while living in her home in Mason, MI that she and her husband had built. She touched the lives of over 150 young people giving guidance and life skills. Many participated in the Youth Programs in her church. She did this until the need came for her to adopt and raise her granddaughter, Tyrickia Plummer.

Mary was preceded in death by: her parents, James and Mary Davis; husband of 69 years, Henderson Plummer; daughter, Marla Kay Plummer; brothers, Rev. Roosevelt Johnson and James Davis Jr.; sisters, Gladys McFadden, Maxine Davis, Claudia Grace, Carrie Davis; sisters in law, Sarah Johnson and Betty Plummer; and grandson, Tyrone Plummer.

Mary was fortunate to see four generations of her family before being called home peacefully by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 6, 2026 from her home in Mason, MI. She leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy: her children, Larry Plummer, Marilyn (Willie) Rogers,  Debra Plummer, Marsha (Greg) Cunningham, Henry Plummer and Tyrickia (Carl) Trevino; grandchildren, LaToya Williams, Terrille Williams, Stallin L.
