Mary Frances Humphrey Littlejohn, 80, of Lansing Mi, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022, from a long fight with stomach cancer. Mary is now in heaven wearing the biggest hat, thanking God that she fought a good fight and has earned her heavenly reward.
Mary Frances was born to Emmett Henry and Rose Mae Humphrey on October 14, 1941 in Jackson, Michigan. She was the eldest of four sisters: Mary, Beatrice, Gerri, and Juanita affectionately known as the "Humphrey girls." Mary was preceded in death by: her parents; one sister, Gerri Woodard; three precious babies; and nephew, Terrance Byrd Sr.
Mary Attended Pearl Street Elementary, East Intermediate Junior High School, and Jackson High School, where she graduated, class of 1959. Mary was an exceptional student in administration and business services. God blessed her tremendously with business acumen that opened many great career options. Most notably she served as a legal secretary for over 20 years. Working along side, Attorney-at-Law, William F. Goler. Mary ended her years of work in 2012 with the State of Michigan, working within the licensing division.
Mary accepted Jesus Christ on November 1, 1954 under the pastoral care of the late Reverend Mark Carrington. She was baptized by the late Reverend Amos Polk Williams, the "Legendary Pastor" of Second Baptist Church, Jackson Michigan. She was prepared, preordained, and predestined for a great work in the Kingdom, through her training in several ministries in the church, including; Sunshine Band, Red circle, Baptist Training Union, Sunday School, Choir, and Junior Usher Board.
Mary wed Sterling O. Littlejohn Jr. on July 31, 1963. They began their spiritual journey together under the guidance of their spiritual parents, the late Pastor Collins and Rev. Willola Gray, at Lane Memorial CME Church. They served in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and were fondly known as "Priscilla and Aquila" Acts 18: 2-3, faithful servants of the Lord who were always together. Mary was the epitome of a dedicated First Lady under her husband's leadership. They were able to lead several CME Churches; Dozier Memorial in Flint, Michigan, Allen Temple in Detroit, Michigan, Mask Memorial in Lansing Michigan, ending their Pastoral leadership at Cleves Temple, Omaha Nebraska in 2001.
Mary, leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband, of 59 years, Reverend Sterling O. Littlejohn, Jr.; two sisters, Beatrice and Juanita (Andrew); three children, Wannetta, Lee Roy III (Yvonne), and Quinn (Carmen); eight loving grandchildren, Ivan Samane (Alisa), Nakiesha (Dajuan), Anthony, Sherice (Christopher Sr.), Kendall, Arianna, Sterling IV, and Sterlisa; seven great-grandchildren, Kyanna, Chris Jr., Brooklyn, Jeremiah, Jaelynn, Ziyana, and Julius; 7 bonus children, Sterlina, Jeffery (Tammy), Ramona (John), Darnell (Florence), Barbrett (Al), and two precedent in death, Sterling III, and Jeanette; grandchildren, Danny, Lebarbra, Calina, Jafari, Iisha, Alisha, Jarael, Tiara, Jeru, Maria, John Henry, Damone, Tynisha, Maurice, and Labrett; 38 great grandchildren; three special nieces, Kim, Christina, and Courtney; one nephew, Jason (Christabel); four god daughters, Julie (Larry) Dawson, Jacqueline Merril, Christina Conway and Aleyne (Kahlmus) Eatmon; special friends, Farris and Barbara Coppage, Mrs. Agnes Brown, Rev. William and Jennie Mae Wilson; along with a host of other family, friends, and church members. Mary will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
