Obituary

Mark Jerone Horn went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 21, 2024.

Mark was born on July 27, 1958, and was one of five children born to James H. Horn and Gloria T. Horn in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He attended Poughkeepsie High School, where he was actively involved in football and other extracurricular activities. Mark graduated from Poughkeepsie High in 1975 at the age of 16.

After high school, Mark enrolled at Central Michigan University and later transferred to the University of Michigan. It was there, at U of M, on April 11, 1977, that he was initiated into the Sigma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He remained a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi and a dedicated brother to his line, the Black Disciples.

After college, Mark went on to have a successful career in sales and manufacturing, working for companies such as Xerox, IBM, and Ford. In 2022, he retired from Plastic Omnium after more than 15 years of service.

During his younger years, Mark continued his love for the game of football by playing semiprofessional football for the Bath Cardinals. He also participated in recreational sports such as softball and basketball. In the 1990s, he won numerous championships playing in the Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournaments in Lansing, MI, and with the Stars Black and Tan softball team. He eventually transitioned to golf and became an avid golfer.

In July of 1985, Mark married his love, Jacqueline Denise King. During their 25-year union, they raised three children: Brent, Jenifer, and Mark II, and one grandchild, Sterling. Mark was a truly devoted husband, father, family member and friend, and anyone who had the privilege of knowing him could see just how deeply he adored his children. They were his heart and soul, his pride and joy. He had a way of showing up when it mattered most—whether to share in moments of laughter, offer comfort in times of sorrow, or simply offer his honest opinion with that familiar warmth and wit. His love and presence were a constant, a gift that will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to be part of his life.

He is preceded in death by: his wife, Jacqueline; his parents, James and Gloria; his brothers, James II and Steven; nephew, TJ; and niece, Elizabeth.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his children, Brent, Jenifer, and Mark II; his sisters, Cheryl and Patty; his grandson, Sterling; his in-laws, Carmen, Donna, and Eric; an aunt, Barbara; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and fraternity brothers.

A memorial for Mr. Horn is being planned for January, 2025, details will be posted when they become available.
