Marian
Watts
January 13, 1939 – September 22, 2021
Marian Watts was born on January 13, 1939, in Deland, Florida to parents Walter J. Jones, Sr. and Clara R.B. (Haywood) Jones. Marian was the fifth child, of seven, born to the couple. On September 22, 2021, Marian went to be with the Lord. She was a breast cancer survivor of over 30 years.
Marian accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in a creek in Baldwin, Michigan. Through the years, she worked in different capacities in the church. She also volunteered outside the church. Two of her passions were teaching youth and visiting the sick and shut-in.
Marian worked as a nurse's aide at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon, Michigan for four years after high school and attended junior college part-time. In 1961, she attended the Cadillac School of Practical Nursing. After graduating in 1962, she worked at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac, Michigan; Hackley Hospital in Muskegon, Michigan; General Hospital in Boulder, Colorado; Grant Hospital in Columbus, Ohio; Doctors Hospital in Seattle, Washington; Emmanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon; and Ingham Medical Center in Lansing, Michigan. Nursing was a great passion in her life.
Marian traveled to 11 different countries and to most of the United States. She took computer classes and a Wilton Cake class. She loved crafts, sewing, baking, and cooking. She made her grandchildren Topsy Turvy Dolls by hand. Marian was a sports enthusiast, both watching and playing. In her younger years, she enjoyed ice skating, roller skating, going to plays, attending concerts, and traveling.
Marian's fondest memories were from her childhood and the times when her mother was living. They lived in Baldwin, Michigan, near Idlewild Resorts. She enjoyed working at a café in Idlewild, picking cherries, beans, strawberries, and apples, and trips to her mother's friend's farm in White Cloud, Michigan. Marian loved the lakes, fall colors, and the winter season. She also cherished the time she spent with her dear childhood friend Judy (Hood) Tett.
Marian's greatest joy centered around her family. She was pre-deceased by: her husband of 31 years, Herman Watts; her brother, Walter Jones Jr.; her brother, Alvin Jones; and her sister, Christine Taylor. She leaves to cherish wonderful memories: daughter, Odette Pennington (Thomas Kirkpatrick) of Oceanside, California; son, Toby (Alicia) Pennington of Ann Arbor, Michigan; stepdaughter, Sibyl W
