Marcus Dwayne Porter was born November 29, 1961 in Lansing, Michigan to Carrie Van Dyke and William Porter.
Marcus graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1979. During his time at Eastern, he participated in football, wrestling and track. He also attended Lansing Community College for Media, Television and Broadcasting.
Marcus enlisted in the United States Army Reserves and served as a military cook. His passion of cooking continued at many family gatherings where he insisted on serving as the family grill master. Marcus loved hanging out with family and friends and listening to his blues and jazz music. He also enjoyed fishing on occasion around the Lansing area. Marcus was an active member of Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church, and helped the members as often as his health allowed.
Marcus leaves to cherish his memory: son, Marcus Dwayne Allen; and his granddaughters, whom he loved unconditionally, Naliyah, Arianna, Hailyana and Jazzlynn. Marcus also leaves: his mother, Carrie VanDyke (Mesa, AZ); his father, William (Mary) Porter (Tuskegee, AL); sisters, Sandra (FL), Debbie, Polly, Linda (aka Pumpkin), Annette (NY), Crystal; brothers, Ivy (Lisa) Davis, Arthur, Leroy, and Dewayne (Michelle) all of Lansing, Michigan; along with two aunts; four uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marcus is preceded in death by: his grandparents; brother, Robert Davis; sisters Laura and Brenda.
