Marcia Kay Wright Morgan
was born August 19, 1949 in Jackson, Michigan to Thomas and Mary (McKinney-Price) Wright. Marcia was known as "Kay Kay" in her younger years, but after growing up, decided that she'd rather be called "Marcia". Marcia graduated from Parkside High School in Jackson, Michigan and started her career as a bank teller. At the age of 20, she gave birth to her daughter, Angela. At the age of 25, she decided to venture to Atlanta, Georgia, where she lived and worked for many years.
In 1982, Marcia moved back to Michigan and worked various jobs, but finally settled on working with children at the Lansing School District, where she stayed for ten years. In 2002, Marcia accepted the offer from her daughter to become the live-in caregiver for her grandson, Isaiah. She took great pride in fulfilling her grandmother/nanny role and was happy to extend her contract when Victoria was born. She was a proud member of Refreshing Spring Church of God in Christ, in Riverdale, Maryland, where she worshipped and served on the hospitality committee for many years.
Marcia moved back to Lansing, Michigan in 2011 to retire, and for the first time, purchased her own home. She was so proud to have her own digs. She enjoyed spending time at home and especially enjoyed growing vegetables in her garden. She was very happy to have found a church home at The Lansing Church of God in Christ. She truly loved her church family. She also enjoyed dancing (especially hand dancing back in the day) and had just signed up to begin serving on the praise and worship team with the church before her untimely departure.
Marcia loved life and was as sweet as pie, but did not hesitate to speak her mind. One of her favorite, more positive quotes was: "When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hold on."
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Mary Cotton and Thomas Wright; and brother, Thomas Wright, Jr.
Our beloved Marcia passed away April 20, 2016. She leaves behind: her daughter, Dr. Angela Wright Marshall; grandchildren, Isaiah and Victoria Marshall; siblings, Rosalind Wright, Michael Wright, and Darrin Wright; nieces, Megan Wright, Moya Maffett and Tamire Bacon; nephews, Rashaan Maffett, Darrin Wright and Deante` Wright; and a host of cousin, other relatives and friends.
