Obituary

On January 18, 1927, in Woodlawn, Tennessee Lottie Mae Johnson was born to Willie Mae (Dabney) and Lawrence Maynard Johnson. Lottie Mae was the eighth of 11 children. Lottie Mae grew up in Tennessee on a farm in a single story, two-bedroom house on a rural road. The farm was seventy acres, and it had a well right outside the kitchen. When World War II broke out Lottie and her two youngest siblings, Lawrence and Marjorie, moved with their parents to Lansing, Michigan. Lottie continued her education where she was the second class to graduate from J.W. Sexton High School in June 1945. During this time, she also joined and became an active member of Union Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral care of Rev. Joel King.

On November 15, 1945, Lottie Mae Johnson married Edgar J. Moore (Flennoy). From this union Lottie and Edgar would have six children: Lorie, Jennifer, Derrick, Kenrick, Rene, and Bernard. While raising children, Lottie also completed her degree in Nursing at Lansing Community College. She worked as a nurse at St. Lawrence hospital until she retired after 34 years.

One of Lottie's greatest passions was traveling. She and her husband Edgar traveled extensively around the world to places such as: China, Europe, Spain, France, Italy, Netherlands, the Holy Lands, India, Africa, South America, Mexico, Canada, Malaysia, Australia and many more. By the age of 85 Lottie had been to six out of the seven continents on Earth. Aside from traveling Lottie also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and shopping.

On September 23, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. Lottie Mae was called home to be with the Lord. Preceding her in death were: her parents, Maynard and Willie Mae; her brothers, Carl, John, Leo, Robert, Lawrence and Frederick; her sisters, Mary (Louise) Gear, Alma Civils, Nannie Brewer, and Marjorie Smith; daughter, Rene; sons, Lorie and Derrick; her grandson, Jason M. Flennoy; and great-grandson, Xavier Guy. Living to cherish her memory are: her loving husband, Edgar; her daughter, Jennifer; and sons, Kenrick and Bernard (Greta) of Georgia. She also leaves twelve grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, eight great great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Lottie Mae knew no strangers and when she met someone it was like she was talking to a friend. Today we celebrate her life, legacy, and love of family.
