Obituary

Age 73, Lonnie David Boogie Johnson was born on November 13, 1938 in Chicago, Il. to loving parents, the late John W. and Alice Johnson. He was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 16, 2012. Lonnie was a graduate of J.W. Sexton High School and he earned his Bachelor and Master Degrees from Michigan State University. He was a founding member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternitys Sigma Undergraduate Chapter at M.S.U. and he retired from management at the Michigan Department of Public Health. Lonnie was an active member in his community and a strong advocate for raising prostate cancer health awareness among African-American and multi-cultural communities. Among many other things, he will be remembered for his infectious laugh, heart of gold, service to others and his humanitarian spirit. His legacy will continue to live through his wife, Dr. Glen Chambers-Johnson, 6 children: Tonya (Ian) Fitzpatrick, Linda (Brian) Leek, Carla (Donald) Gillery, Daniele Johnson, Kyle (Jenelle) Johnson, Charles (Mari) Johnson and 9 grandchildren as well as a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.Friends may visit Mr. Johnson Friday, June 22, 2012 from 9am-9pm at Riley Funeral Home. Family hour from 6-7pm. A public life celebration service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 10 am at St. Stephens Community Church, 1007 Kimberly Drive, Lansing. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior.
