Lois Theresa
Johnson
December 26, 1931 – May 1, 2021
There remaineth a rest for the children of God. Evangelist Lois T. Johnson entered into the sacred place of rest on May 1, 2021, at the Holt Rehab Center in Holt, MI. She was the eldest child born to her deceased parents. Lois was born in the piney woods of Woodson, Arkansas on December 26, 1931. Early education was in Arkansas prior to arriving in Michigan as a small girl to reunite with her family. Her time spent in Arkansas allowed her to closely connect with her two cousins, Lenon and L.V. The three of them remained in Arkansas with Grandmother Ellis while the parents sought a new and better life in Michigan. Finally, employment was gained along with housing and Lois was reunited with her family in Michigan.
She was a soft-spoken individual with a thirst for reading and music. Also, she felt it was her responsibility to teach her two younger sisters the alphabet and how to read. Those classes still brought laughter and precious memories to the three of them. Lois was educated through high school in the Lansing Public Schools. Career seeking led her to working as a salesperson at J.W. Knapps and Clarks Department Store. The initial opening of Clark's allowed her to be employed as a cashier for quite some time. However, although she enjoyed the employment experience, her greatest love was being an extremely competent housewife, mother and providing child care for many children in Lansing.
Her love for her mother, the late Pastor Fellersee Williams, was instrumental in a commitment to serve in any capacity in the founding of the Bay City Original Church of God. It was a commitment she and her husband, Deacon Morgan Johnson made just to serve and be of assistance to the work of the Lord. Little did they know that this was the avenue God would utilize to birth holiness into their hearts, minds and spirits. If you want to see an undaunted commitment to faithful service, just look at Evangelist Lois and Deacon Morgan Johnson. When the church property was purchased by the Bay City government, the return to Lansing took place where they continued to serve, work and pay in the relocation on Cedar Street in Lansing. Time waits on no man, and soon it was moving time again. This move on Turner Street to what is now known as Williams Chapel Original Church of God. Her services will always be remembered as a founding member of the Angelic Chimes, State of Michigan Missionary President, Pastor's Aide, etc. Lois loved her Pastor and First Lady and exemplified it by her support and presence.
She loved to attend the church convocations, seeing the family of God and traveling. Her travels took her on cruises, to Denver, California; as well as the African American Museum and the Bible Museum in Washington, D.C. She was so appreciative of God blessing by sending Morgan into her life. The two of them had so much in common, it was almost uncanny. They shared over forty years of happy wife...happy life. Their story depicts the story and glory of love. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, aunts. uncles, cousins; her much loved daughter and son, Vicki Linn and Rahn Jay Maffett.
Evangelist Johnson leaves to deeply mourn her departure: beloved husband, Deacon Morgan Johnson; much loved son, Stanley Leon Maffett (special friend, Diane) of Southfield, MI; heart adopted daughter, Rosalind Wright of Lansing, MI; grandchildren, Tamone (Tenera) Berry, Min. Spartacus (Kathy) Berry, Rahsaan and Moya Maffett; 14 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Pastor Geraldine T. Richardson and Bennie Lee Black both of Lansing, MI; brothers-in-love, James Jones, Frank (Shirley) Jones, Charles Jones, Paul Jones, Willie Jones, Raymond Jones all of Cincinnati, OH, and Elijah Jones of Washington State; special cousin's, Delores Hunter of Lansing, MI and Lucille Cole of Selma, AL; special niece, Tina Lewis of Cincinnati, OH; a loving church family; and a host of cousins and friends. Finally after an extended illness, God dispatched a special angel to transfer her from earth to glory. Yes, there does remain a rest for the children of God.
