Age 88, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, peacefully, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on January 9, 2013. Lela was born in Lansing, MI. She was raised in a family where caring for others was the way of life. Her life was devoted to her personal family, church family, and the children she assisted, through her working years. She was the daughter of a founding member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She attended Mt. Zion faithfully. She moved to Kalamazoo, MI, to live out her later years close to her sisters. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Tommy Lane; son, Theodore Teddy Lane; daughter, Sharon Lane; great-grandchild, Alysia Lane; sisters, Carlene Johnson, Comilla Mathews, and Virginia Williams; and brother C.H. Austin. Survivors include: her children, Winston (Marilyn) Lane and Synetta Garrett; 7 grandchildren, 10 great- grandchildren; brother Alton Austin; and extended family including many nieces, nephews, cousins. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 14, 12 pm at Mt. Zion All Nations Bible, 10575 S. Krepps Road, Dewitt, MI. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service.
