L. Robert McElmurry passed away in the presence of his family on Tuesday, May 4, at 76 years of age. Bob is survived by: his wife, Roberta May nee Crawford; his sons, Robert (Kerry) and Andrew; his grandchildren, Maxwell and Cade; and his siblings, Phyllis, Jo, Jean, and Neal.

This year Bob and Roberta celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Bob was beloved by his family and impacted countless people throughout his life and career.

Bob practiced medicine for 50 years. He treated 1000's of patients in Lansing, including multiple generations of the same families. Dr. Bob started his practice with his father. Cumulatively, father and son served the Lansing area for nearly 100 years. Bob worked with Michigan Senator William Sederburg on legislation that was written into law to protect patient rights. He founded multiple profitable businesses managed jointly with his loving wife, Roberta.

Bob was an incredible person with a diverse variety of interests and talents. He collected antiquities and loved ancient greek and roman history, where he was more well-read than many experts in the subject. Bob traveled around the world once in 80 days and again with his wife Roberta for over a year. Bob was an expert botanist and took great pride in his collection of rare and short-blooming wildflowers in his garden at his home in East Lansing. Bob was an expert equipment operator with over 10,000 hours of experience operating Excavators, Backhoes, and Bulldozers. As a young man, Bob helped build Highway 496.

Bob, most of all, loved, protected, and provided for his family and those people closest to him. If you were lucky enough to enter into Bob's most immediate circles, you knew the meaning of loyalty and trust.

Bob taught us how to live life on our own terms and did so until his last breath.
