Obituary

Kenneth Duane McFadden, aka Kenny (Mac-Attack) McFadden, age 61 years old was born in Lansing, Michigan on August 18, 1960. Ken passed away, March 24, 2022. The third of four sons to Fred (Chico) McFadden, Sr. and Gladys Mae McFadden. Like his brothers, Kenny was raised here in Lansing Michigan. However, Ken's God-given basketball talent took Kenny halfway Around the World to Wellington, New Zealand.

Wellington, a tropical island paradise, and home of the Wellington Saints ("Exchequer Saints") Basketball Team. This former Lansing, J.W Sexton, Big Red Basketball star graduated in 1978, laced up his sneakers and became the most outstanding basketball player in the history of New Zealand Basketball !!! Ken moved to New Zealand in 1982 to play for the Wellington Saints, where he played 15 seasons and won four National Ball League Championships. He finished his playing career as a four-time All-Star Five member, a two-time outstanding guard , a two-time scoring champion , and a three-time assist champion . He played 252 NBL games in total, scoring 5004 points for a career average over 20 points per game. In 2021, he was named the number "2" greatest NBL player of all time. His No. 5 jersey was retired by the Saints in 2010.

After his retirement in 1996 from the Wellington Saints, Kenny continued his love for of basketball by becoming heavily involved with junior player development, founding his own hoops academy in Wellington as well as coaching the Junior Tall Blacks to the under-19 world championships in 2009. He was well known as the mentor and manager of New Zealand NBA player, Steven Adams.

In 2010 and 2011, McFadden served as an assistant coach for the Wellington Saints under coach Pero Cameron . He returned to the role in 2019 under coach Paul Henare and again in 2021 under Zico Coronel. The Saints won championships all four years with Kenny McFadden, as assistant. Kenny remained in Wellington, New Zealand, his home for 40 years until his passing.

Ken is preceded in death by: his parents, Frederick "Chico" McFadden, Sr. and Gladys Mae McFadden; brother, Steven McFadden; infant niece, Michelle Victoria McFadden.

He leaves to cherish his memory: brothers, Frederick (LaLarie) McFadden, Jr. and Michael McFadden, of Lansing, MI; nephews, Darius McFadden, Steven "Chico" McFadden, Jr.; nieces, Myka (Terrell) Davis, Jasmine McFadden, Kendra (Kaylann) Williams Sr.; great nephews, Khar'ee Davis, Kyren Davis, Gurpreet McFadden Singh, Kaylann M .Williams Jr.; great nieces, DeAsia Davis, Jazlyn McFadden, Camryn McFadden, Kayanna Williams, Kaydynce Williams; great nephew, Princeton Emory; and many other relatives and friends.
