Katie L.
Stepter
August 7, 1932 – April 27, 2022
Mrs. Katie Lee Boggs Stepter was the second child born to Roosevelt Boggs and Bertha Mae Hill Boggs on August 7, 1932 in Camden, Alabama. She attended Camden Public Schools, as well as Mobile Branch College. She loved the Lord and was baptized at an early age at St. Emanuel Baptist Church where she was a member until her relocation to Lansing, Michigan.
Katie and the love of her life, Mr. Cleve Stepter, Sr. were united in holy matrimony on Sunday, October 2, 1955, in Lansing, Michigan. "So they were no longer two, but one flesh," Matthew 19.6. Their union gifted them three wonderful sons: LaFredric, Cleve Jr. and Roderick.
Originally a member of Galilee Baptist Church, she moved her membership to Union Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral care of Pastor Joel L. King. She and her family worshipped together at Union for many years. Katie showed true dedication to Union through the years as a humble servant to the Senior Usher Board and Gospel Chorus. "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth," 1 Timothy 2:15.
A woman who spent her lifetime caring for others, Katie was employed with Michigan State University in food services for a short time before becoming a full-time mother within the home. She took pride in her boys as they were her greatest joy. Her life-long dedication to God and family could be seen through her loving care as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. In her spare time, Katie enjoyed bowling and volunteering at the voting polls.
Katie is preceded in death by: her parents, Roosevelt and Bertha Mae Boggs; husband, Cleve Stepter, Sr.; brother, Houston Boggs; sister, Willie Pearl Sampson; and son, Roderick Stepter.
Mrs. Katie L. Stepter is survived by: her children, LaFredric (Rebecca) of Grand Rapids, MI, Cleve Jr. (Marian) of Lansing, MI; daughter-in-law, Angela of Lansing, MI; seven grandchildren, Anthony, Arianna, Cortney, Amariah, Michael, Alyssa and Alecia; one great-grandson, Alijah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and supportive friends.
