Mrs. Kathryn Lois Austin was born July 17, 1937 in Lansing, Michigan to John Washington and Elizabeth Hopkins.  She graduated from Sexton High School in 1956. Mrs. Austin accepted Christ at an early age.

Shortly after graduation she met, fell in love and after a six month courtship married Herb Austin Sr. To this union was born three children, LaNette, Herb "Bert" Jr. and Andre. They enjoyed 61 years of marital bliss.  Sister Austin was a faithful member of the Mt. Zion All Nations Bible Church, where she faithfully served as Deaconess preparing communion and candidates for baptism, Choir Director and an Altar worker. She was a faithful attendee of many, many events throughout the city, as she loved supporting her community. In 1996, Sister Kathy, retired from the State of Michigan after 25 years of service and thoroughly enjoy her retirement which included golfing, traveling and shopping!  Sunday nights were special as those were the times spent with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with much laughter and joy.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, John and Elizabeth Hopkins; brother, Sherman Bennett; sisters, Juanita Simmons and Mabel White.

Sister Kathy Austin departed this life unexpectedly on August 28th. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her faithful husband of 61 years, Herb Austin, Sr.; devoted daughter,  LaNette(Randall) Hester of Lansing , MI; two devoted sons, Herb "Bert" Jr. (Andrea) Austin of Phoenix, AZ and Andre (Liz) Austin of Houston, TX; eight grandchildren,  Angel (Marcus) Nickerson of Biloxi, MS, Jonathan (NyShell) Lawrence, of Lansing, MI, Ryeasha Hester of Las Vegas, NV, Mariah Lawrence, of Lansing, MI, Ryanna Hester, of Cassopolis, MI, Andre (Briana) Austin of Oklahoma City, OK, Steven Lawrence and Ryaira Hester, of Lansing, MI; great grandchildren, Joelle, Olyvia, Emerson and Avery Lawrence; siblings; Martha Cager, of Lansing, MI; Willkie (Patricia) Hopkins of Orlando, FL and Sam (Deanna) Hopkins of Lansing, MI; two special daughters, Michelle McGuire of Lansing, MI and Tami Moran of Kalamazoo, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and godchildren!
