Julius Jude Scott was born March 15, 1926 to John and Aleaner Scott in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Julius met and married the love of his life, Ms. Arveal Pat Penner in Blytheville, Arkansas. The Lord blessed this union, of 62 years, with five children: Julia, Pinkie, Cornell, Julius, Jr. and Stanley. Julius moved his wife and family to Lansing, Michigan in May, 1965 and became a dedicated employee for the City of Lansings Park and Recreation Division. He retired after 26 years of service. Julius loved sports, specifically, baseball. He played the position of catcher for the Blytheville No.9 Ball Club. He was a veteran of the United States Army, Company F, 1349th Engineer General Service Regiment and was discharged with honors on November 1946. He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years, until his health began to decline. Julius loved the Lord and enjoyed singing with the Male Chorus. He was also a driver for the churchs Van Ministry. Julius greatest joy was his wife and children. He was a loving father figure to many. He will always be remembered for his warm smile, quiet strength, and quick-witted sense of humor. He was preceded in death by; his parents, John and Aleaner Scott; brother, William Horace Scott; and sister, Mary Elijah. Julius departed this life on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. He leaves to forever cherish his memory: his loving wife of 62 years, Arveal Pat Scott; two daughters, Julie (Calvin) Carter and Pinkie (Thaddeus) Wills, both of Lansing; three sons, Cornell (Anita) Scott, Julius Scott, Jr., and Stanley Troy Scott, all of Lansing; nine grandchildren, Leticia Wills, LaTonya (Marcus) Turner, Goyce Redman, LaKetta Redmond, Christina Dungy, Calvin (Carrie) Carter, III, Marquis Carter, Andrea Lake, and Arnon Lake; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Georcie V. (Fred) Harris; brother-in-law, Fred (Roxie) Penner of Markham, Illinois; sister-in-law, Leatha West of Chicago, Illinois; three adopted god-children, Raymond and Sharon Taylor of Lansing and Ms. Barbara Crompton, of Indianapolis, Indiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at Riley Funeral Home on Thursday August 9, 2012 from 12 - 9pm. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 10, 2012 at 11:30am at Galilee Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
