Joseph Frank Moody, 88, born on July 6, 1930 in Laurel, Mississippi, Joseph was the son of the late Frank Moody and Carrie Nixon. He learned how to work well with his hands at a young age. After completing grade school, he was taught the trades of carpentry and farming by his "Papa", a sharecropper named Randolph Nixon.
As a young man, Joseph went to serve in the U.S. Army, spent time traveling and later relocated to Jackson, Michigan. In 1955, he began working for General Motors, in Lansing, Michigan, as an all-around repairer and retired after 39 years of service. He married his wife Lois [Hall] Moody of almost 62 years on March 23rd, 1957.
Joseph had an infectious smile that would instantly light up a room. He loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. He was meticulous in his work and would ensure that everything was in precise order. Over the years Joseph taught himself many trades. His business acumen and wisdom inspired many. Joseph valued the importance of education and community mentorship. He enjoyed rehabilitating homes, serving others, and teaching young-men in the community his trade.
Joseph transitioned to eternal rest on Sunday, March 3rd, 2019. He is preceded in his homegoing by: his father; mother; and brother.
Joseph will forever be remembered by: his loving wife; daughters, Sharon (Walter Harrell Jr.) Moody-Harrell and Bridgette Franshar (Kenneth Peake) Peake; two grandsons, Harvey Stone III and Walter Harrell III; two granddaughters, Kyleigh Peake and Miliah Peake; nineteen great-grands; five great-great grands; sister, Mary Sumter-Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
