Johnnie Mendenhall,
Jr.
January 14, 1937 – August 5, 2022
Johnnie Mendenhall Jr. was born on January 14,1937, in Camden, AL, to the late Johnnie Sr. and Ella Mae Mendenhall. He professed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Mr. Mendenhall relocated to Lansing, MI, in 1963 and was employed with Motor Wheel Corporation until he retired in 1996. In addition, he worked various jobs, such as waste management and truck driving.
Mr. Mendenhall was an active member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church for more than 40 years, under the leadership of the late Rev. J.E. Graves and most recently, Pastor H. Levi McClendon III, serving in various capacities over the years until his health declined. While serving in the church, Mr. Mendenhall connected with people and made many friends who turned into family.
On Friday, August 5, 2022, at 12:17 p.m., God whispered, "Well done" and Mr. Mendenhall completed his work on earth. His legacy lives on through his: sister, Mary Robbins of Lansing; children: daughters, Brenda Beatty, Mildred Mendenhall and Angela (Damon) Wallace, of Lansing; sons, Nathaniel (Shelley) Mendenhall and Johnnie Roger Mendenhall III of Lansing, and Larry Wilson (Sonya Hughes) of Georgia; grandchildren, Taniesha (Alan) Anderson, LaRosa Johnson, Cadiah Beatty (Brandon Wright), LaChance and Chauncy Mendenhall, of Lansing; Larry Wilson Jr., Keith Roberts, Kevin Roberts,
Sharronda (Rickey) Gather, Calecia Moore, Alona R. Wilson, Autumn R. Wilson and Rickey O'Neil Reid, all of Georgia; great-grandchildren, Bryana and Nasidra Anderson, James Johnson, Ella and Emma Crymes, and Nalia Mendenhall, all of Lansing; Kevin Jr. and Jordan Roberts, Rikki Gather, Terrell Byfield, Camren and Keyondre Moore, and Navaiaya Byfield of Georgia; sisters in-law, Minnie Mendenhall and Marguerite Mendenhall, of Lansing; and a host of relatives and friends.
Mr. Mendenhall was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Leopolean Mendenhall, Larry Woods, Johnny Wright, Lewis Mendenhall; sisters, Wyhoma Mendenhall and Leila Williams; son, Rickey Wilson; granddaughter, LaCressia Ann Beatty; grandson, Jestin Mendenhall; and great-grandson, Braylen Anderson.
