Obituary

Johnnie Mae Chappell was born November 03,1938 in Lisbon, Louisiana. She graduated from George Washington High School in Marked Tree, Arkansas in 1957. She received her Licensed Practical Nurse Certification from Lansing Community College, Lansing, Michigan. Johnnie had a strong background in Orthopedics and worked with Edward W. Sparrow Hospital for over 37 years. Johnnie accepted Christ, as her Savior, at an early age. She joined Union Missionary Baptist Church, when she moved to Lansing. She sang in the Union Choir. Johnnie was known as a giving, sharing, and caring person. In her heart, she wanted everyone to have a chance to survive lifes struggles and succeed in life. If you needed help, she would find a way to help. She loved her boys, her life, traveling, and family get-togethers. Her motto: Do not miss the family reunion!! She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Emma Lou Hall and Mattie Mae Chappell Johnnie made her transition on Monday, January 06, 2014 at Eaton Community Palliative Care, Charlotte, Michigan. She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, born to William Henry Chappell and herself, Clarence Henry Chappell of Gardenia, California, and Pastor Glenn Alan (Karen) Chappell, and Michael Anthony (Tameka) Chappell, both of Pontiac, Michigan; grandsons, Caleb Alan, Michael Anthony, II, and Christian Quinton; siblings, Bertha Lee Webster (Herbert), Willie Butler, Thomas Hall, Jr., Betty Lou Hall, John Hall, Essie Hall, Vera Hall-Radcliff; Elex Hall, Alice Wayne Hall, Jacquelyn Sanchez, Sam Hall, Wyvonnia Bold, and Joe Helen Jones; uncle, Roosevelt (Norma) Mack of Compton, California; and several nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Ms. Chappell will lie in repose Sunday, January 12, 12-7pm, at the Riley Funeral Home, 426 W. St. Joseph St., Lansing. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 13, 11am, at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 500 S Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Lansing. The family will receive friend 30 minutes before the service.
