Age 74, of Lansing, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012. John was a former educator in the Detroit Public School District. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Joann Doby-Waters; daughter, Alicia Currington of Bellville, MI; parents, Joseph and Flora of Dowagiac, MI; brothers, James (Nancy) of Muskegon, MI, Leroy of Benton Harbor,MI, and Larry (Adrienne) of Brookfield, WI; nieces, Cheryl Waters and Angela Waters-Austin of Lansing; step-children, Damany and DiArra Doby of Lansing; special granddaughter, Kaiya Doby; special nephew, James Chambers of Grand Rapids, MI; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends. Friends may visit Mr. Waters Friday, December 21, 2 - 9 pm at the Riley Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 7-8 pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 22, 10 am at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 5200 Pleasant Grove Rd. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the funeral.
