John Desmond Jones, Sr. departed this life to be with his heavenly Father on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.

John was born April 22, 1955 in Lansing, Michigan to Jesse Jones, II and Marion Jones.

John accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized and was a lifetime member of Galilee Baptist Church. He sang in the male chorus. He truly loved reading and studying the Bible. The book of Psalms was his favorite.

John graduated from Sexton High School. He ran track and loved basketball. John worked at General Motors (Fisher Body) where he retired after 30 years of service. He was an avid music lover. He was known for always being a sharp dresser, they called him "Cool John" back in the day.

John was very family oriented and made sure they were taken care of. He was married to Carolyn, his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, for 44 years. John was tender hearted and strong. He spent a great deal of time assisting with caring for his daughter Djuana. He really cherished the time he spent with all of his family.

John was preceded in death by: his mother and father, Jesse Jones, II and  Marion Marie Jones; daughter, Djuana Jones; paternal grandparents, Jesse Jones I and Carrie Pearl Jones; brothers, Garland Eaton, Hershal Eaton; sister, Linda Eaton-Johnson; aunt, Joyce Galloway; uncle, Cecil Harvey.

He leaves to cherish and celebrate his precious memories: his loving and devoted wife of over 44 years, Carolyn Jones; 2 sons, John (LaToya) Jones, Jr., Javon (Amanda) Jones of Lansing, Michigan; 4 grandchildren, Sarinede, Destiny, Zion and Zechariah Jones of Lansing, Michigan; 8 brothers and sisters, Carmen Jones of Farmington Hills, Michigan, Eldwin Jones of Lansing, Michigan, Jesse (Sharon) Jones, III of Atlanta, Georgia, Gloria Pearl Jones of East Lansing, Michigan, Kenneth Jones of Chicago, Illinois, Michael (Judy) Jones, Franklin, Kentucky, Bruce (Nichole) Jones of Benton Harbor, Michigan and Debra Jones of Lansing, Michigan; brother-in-law, Roger Johnson of Lansing, Michigan; uncle Leonard (Lucille) Jones of Lansing, Michigan; many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family other relatives and friends.
