Obituary

John Wesley Edmond was born March 1, 1943 in Canton Mississippi to the late James and Ruby Edmond, and beloved grandparents, Walter (Big Daddy) and Mary (Big Momma) Love. John accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Mary Grove Baptist Church.

John attended Rogers High School in Canton and graduated in the class of 1962. Shortly after graduating, he moved to Lansing Michigan, where he was hired in 1963 by General Motors and worked at the Fisher Body Division, retiring after 33.3 years. John met Vernetta Sturdivant, the love of his life and they were married 56 years. To this union three sons were born.

An avid sports fan, John played softball with Hazel's Creations, Starr's Black and Tan, and United Management in the City of Lansing Men's Softball League for 30 years. He was a huge New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Michigan State University Sports Fan.

John Wesley Edmond, was an extraordinary man, faithful husband, loving father and granddad, devoted brother, uncle, cousin and friend.

He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife of 56 years, Vernetta; three sons, Darnell, James, John (Sonya) all of Lansing Michigan; Sonya's parents, Ronald and Bettie Williams, Ft. Worth TX; six grandchildren, Eboni, Myles (Myles' mother, Sherry Riggle), Julian, Symone, Syleana; one brother, Walter (Dorothy) Love, Canton, MS; two sisters, Beatrice Hoskins, East Lansing, MI and Katie Daniels, Canton, MS; brother in-law. Andy Jackson, Lansing, MI; five sisters-in law, Irene (Herfner) Cutliff, Oklahoma City, OK, Barbara Sturdivant James, Austin, TX, Bernice Sturdivant, Grand Blanc, MI, Marie Sturdivant Campbell, Lansing, MI, Irene Sturdivant, East Lansing, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

John was proceeded in death by: parents, James and Ruby Edmond; and beloved grandparents, Walter (Big Daddy) and Mary (Big Momma) Love; sisters, Doris Edmond-Jackson, Lena Edmond, Bernice Edmond; and granddaughter, Amaia Edmond.

John loved helping others.  In the words of Tamara Lynn Sturdivant, "Uncle John was a perfect example of a good man."
