Obituary

The Lord presented John Landry Davis, Jr. to Mildred and John Landry Davis, Sr. on October 5, 1942 in New Orleans, Louisiana. His parents moved their family to Covert, Michigan when John was just a child. John went into the Army where he learned how cook and drive trucks. After leaving the Army, John got a job in Benton Harbor, Michigan. He had his oldest son, Sean Blair Wood and soon after, he met the love of his life, Annie Bell Kelley, and they married on August 7, 1965. They were blessed with five children: Trina Maria, Andrea Michele, John Landry, III, Reginald Alan and Christopher Darnell. John later got a job at Haskins and Sons Trucking, Company in Lansing, Michigan and moved his family there in 1969. John accepted the Lord as the head of his life at age 25 at Galilee Baptist Church, where he was baptized by the late Reverend Charles Tolbert. He sang in the Gospel Choir, was ordained as a Deacon and was instrumental in building the church located on Reo Road. John was known to his children as "Dad" or "Daddy"; and to his grandchildren as "Paw Paw" or "Big Pickle". He was also affectionately known by the nicknames "Big Fisherman", "Big Daddy", "Mr. D." and "Big John". He loved everyone and knew no strangers. John always had a smile, laughed with many, and always had a story for you. Throughout his life John touched many lives and left no one the same as he found them. John loved his family and leaves many memories to cherish. He had special individual relationships with his children and grandchildren alike. He truly looked forward to his yearly fishing trips with Reggie and Christmas with the family. John had great wisdom and would sprinkle grains of wisdom all who would listen to him. He taught his children to love the Lord, respect all and have good etiquette and would tell them "if it don't concern you leave it alone". John told his children to always celebrate themselves and always have cake and ice cream for their birthday. He was preceded in death by: his father, John, Sr.; mother, Mildred; and sisters, Joan and Carolyn. Our beloved John Landry Davis, Jr. went home to be with the Lord on March 16, 2015, at the age of 72, in Live Oaks, Florida. He is survived by: his loving wife, of 49 years, Annie Kelley Davis; 2 daughters, Trina (William) Rios and Andrea (Robert) Bradley, both of Lansing; 4 sons, Reginald (Angela) Davis and John, III, both of Lansing, Christopher (Vanessa) Davis of Tampa, Florida, and Sean Wood of Arizona; grandchildren, Dennett, Arron, Alandris, John, Vershelle, Sharieva, Jovan, Aisha, Aleisa, Andrele, Bernard, and Reginald; many great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
